Rebel Roundup is Just Around the Corner!

  Coordinators needed for Teacher Appreciation Luncheon     
(March 13, 2012)
 
Do you like coordinating events?  The PTSA needs your help! 
 
We need a Teacher/Staff Appreciation Gift Coordinator and two Teacher Appreciation Luncheon Coordinators to help with the Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon on Tuesday, March 13, 2012.

 Breakfast Donations Needed for Science Fair
 
The PTSA will be hosting a breakfast for the Science Fair judges, teachers and volunteers on Saturday, Feb. 4th.  If you are willing to donate breakfast items, please click here for the sign up sheet
 
Note:  Donations need to be brought to the Main Office before 2:00pm on Friday, Feb. 3rd or to the Multipurpose Room no later than 7:00am on Sat., Feb. 4th.
 
 
Volunteers Needed for the FHS Leadership Class Super Dance
February 11th
 
The FHS Leadership Class is planning a Super Dance, similar to a marathon, where students can volunteer to dance for a certain amount of time and get sponsors to donate money.  All donations will benefit the National Institute on Mental Illness.  Volunteers are needed to chaperone and help with the hospitality room.  Please click here for the sign up sheet.

 Junior Parent/Student College Planning Night
Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 - 7:00 pm in the FHS Auditorium
 
 Admissions Representatives from the following schools will be at FHS to discuss the college application and admissions process, as well as answer questions from parents and students:
 
George Mason University
Marymount University
University of Mary Washington
Northern Virginia Community College
Radford University's Dean of Admissions
 
All juniors interested in attending a two- or four-year college or university after graduation are encouraged to attend.  Get your questions ready and join us for this very informative evening!


Student Training Opportunities at Fairfax Public Access
 
FPA is home to Fairfax County's public access channels 10, 30 & 37.  They operate a full service TV and Radio Production facility.  During the summer they offer 1 week Radio and 2 week Television Summer Camps which certify participants in their facility equipment and as TV or Radio Producers.  Additional information can be found at www.faac.org.
 
 
 Fairfax City Schools Superintendent Changing
 
Ann Monday, the Superintendent of the City of Fairfax Schools, has informed the Board of her desire to retire at the end of June, 2012.  Click here to learn more.
 
The City of Fairfax School Board is now beginning the process of selecting a new superintendent to begin work on July 1, 2012.  Click here to see a list of qualifications and characteristics that the School Board invites you to review, share, and provide input on.

Virginia Lottery Super Teacher Night 2012

The Virginia PTA is again partnering with Virginia Lottery to promote and recognize the Super Teacher award with nominations due January 4 through February 14, 2012.  Eight teachers from around the state will be recognized in the spring.  Check the VA PTA and VA Lottery Super Teacher web sites for more information about nominations and awards.
 
In honor of this awards program the Northern Virginia District PTA, in partnership with George Mason University and Virginia Lottery, would like to announce the special promotion for the Patriots basketball game against Towson University on Saturday, January 21, 2012, at 7 p.m. Through this exclusive ticket promotion, the Virginia Lottery, the Northern Virginia District PTA and George Mason University want to pay tribute to our educators who put smiles on their students’ faces and who help shape their futures.
